Story
Katie's Version:
How did anyone meet in 2019? On a dating app of course! After college, I moved from Austin to McKinney into my very own apartment. It was just far enough from my parents and just close enough to my best friend, Emily. I had gotten all settled into my new space, got the cutest new puppy (Hey, Nova), and was living my best life... or so I thought.
Emily will tell you a very different story. I was calling her, almost every day, from my closet floor crying because I felt so alone. Her words to me were something of pure poetry: "Katie, if you don't download a dating app and let someone take you to dinner, I will do it for you! Prince Charming does not live in your closet.”
So that’s what I did, against what I thought was my best judgement. It took a little while for Brockton to show up on that dating app, but once he did, and as soon as he had earned enough points to have my phone number (Literally! I made him earn 12 points before I would give it to him.), I deleted the app.
We met up at TopGolf; I still remember what he was wearing: a gray fuzzy hoodie, black skinny jeans, and black Chelsea boots. I remember after that first date wondering if he was impressed with my golf swing. I also wondered how long I should wait before telling him that I didn’t want to date anyone else… he so quickly became my favorite person in the entire world.
So here we are! Brockton is still my favorite person in the entire world. (Our flower girls and ring security team are dangerously close seconds.) It’s funny to think back to 2019, and how that “best life” I thought I was living pails in comparison to life every day with Brockton. I am truly living my best life—and if you were wondering, Nova is too!
Brockton's Version:
I knew pretty early on that Katie would be the one for me.
About 6 months after we started dating, COVID lockdowns hit. Katie likes to joke that we got "COVID stuck" … and technically we did, but it turned out to be blessing. We started talking about things that "you're not supposed to talk about" so early in a relationship: what style of house we'd want to live in, how big of family we wanted—essentially, what we wanted our life (together) to look like.
Weekends filled with delicious meals, cocktail competitions, and Marvel movie marathons (Katie hadn’t seen any of them) quickly became my favorite part of the week!
Prior to meeting Katie, I had spent the previous 3 years of my life as a workaholic. So, committing to a weekend away from my laptop and WeWork office was a big step for me! One of my favorite parts about Katie is the balance she brought into my life, which has ultimately led to more success and fulfillment.
Many know Katie to be smart, tough, and (sometimes) funny—but perhaps few know that her best quality is that she has the kindest heart. I’m so lucky that she shares it with me!
